Yearly Oral Health Reminders: Toothbrush Care

Posted .

In order to ensure that your toothbrush functions effectively when brushing your teeth, it is important to make sure you take care of your toothbrush. If your toothbrush is worn out, broken, or damaged in any way it will not be able to effectively do its job as intended. In addition, it is important to always store your toothbrush correctly to ensure contamination cannot occur.

Never share your toothbrush with anyone else, and never use anyone else’s toothbrush. This can lead to contamination. In addition, always keep your own toothbrush clean when not in use and keep it away from other toothbrushes. Try to choose a location where it can air out and not be subject to moisture and potential bacterial contamination.

When selecting a toothbrush, always aim for a brush that has soft bristles and can easily fit into your mouth to reach all areas of your gums. If the bristles are too hard, they can easily be abrasive and damage your gums and potentially wear away your tooth enamel. If you struggle brushing with traditional toothbrushes, switch to alternative cleaning tools such as an electric toothbrush. Always remember to replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months or sooner if necessary.
